Celosta / Breeze block room dividers and partitions

Breeze block room dividers and partitions

A ceramic breeze block room divider divides a space without taking away its light. It separates the kitchen from the living room, the hallway from a room or a work corner, and still stays airy. Our entire range is suitable for indoor use.

Light and airiness instead of a solid wall

A solid partition splits a flat into smaller, darker rooms. A perforated fired clay partition defines the space just as clearly, but daylight from the windows reaches further into the layout and air circulates freely. During the day the wall draws shadows on the floor in the shape of its openings; in the evening, under artificial light, it reads as an ornament.

A breeze block partition works for separating the kitchen and dining room, the entrance hall from the living room, the bedroom from a walk-in wardrobe or the bathroom from the bedroom. In commercial spaces it forms a screen behind reception, divides booths in a restaurant or separates workstations in an office. The front of a kitchen island or bar counter can also be built from breeze blocks.

Breeze blocks, glass blocks or a slatted wall

Three solutions are most often considered for a light-filled partition. Each has different properties:

  • Glass blocks: they let through a lot of light, but not air or sound. The view behind them is blurred, so they give good privacy. They suit places where moisture or odours also need to be kept apart, for example in a bathroom.
  • Slatted room divider: wooden or veneered slats are quick to install and light. However, they are combustible, sensitive to moisture and mechanical damage, and separate the space visually rather than physically.
  • Ceramic breeze blocks: they let through both light and air, are non-combustible (class A1), need no paint and last for decades. The partition is built in masonry and solid, and you set the level of privacy by choosing the shape of the opening. Unlike glass blocks, however, they do not block sound or odours.

Suitable models for indoors

The most affordable are the red terracotta Valencia LE blocks from the Essential line, with oriental and geometric patterns. The handmade Andalúzia TB blocks with an aged surface share a 12 cm module, so they can be combined and the Andalúzia TB 9 planter can be set into the wall. The small handmade Valencia MC formats in four clay shades suit delicate partitions, friezes and counter cladding.

Indoors you can also use any model labelled Outdoor / Indoor, for example Andalúzia CC 3 with a cross through the whole block or the Italian Benátsko 3 with its fish scale pattern.

How large should the openings be

The larger the opening, the more light and view the partition lets through. Frames with a single opening, such as Valencia LE 2, only suggest a division of the space. Ornamental blocks with several smaller openings, such as Valencia LE 8 with thirteen lantern-shaped openings, give more privacy. The depth of the block also plays a role: the deeper it is, the more the partition closes when viewed at an angle.

If you are not sure, we will prepare a visualisation of your partition in the actual space with real shadows.

Frequently asked questions

Can the floor carry a breeze block partition?

A breeze block partition is built in masonry and has its own weight. We state the weight of each block and the quantity per m² for every model; assessing the floor slab and the anchoring of the partition is a job for a structural engineer or a builder.

Can a breeze block partition be used in a bathroom?

Yes, as a screen or to separate a shower from a bedroom. Bear in mind that breeze blocks let through both air and moisture. Glazed models are easier to keep clean around water.

Which breeze blocks are for indoor use only?

The Valencia LE, Valencia MC and Andalúzia TB models, for which the manufacturer does not declare frost resistance. On the website they are labelled Indoor.

Does a breeze block partition let sound through?

Yes. The openings let air through, and therefore sound too. If you need an acoustically separated room, consider glass blocks or a solid partition with a glazed strip.

Want to see the partition in advance?

Send us a floor plan or a photo of the space. We will prepare a visualisation and a quote with the number of blocks. Samples of selected models can be viewed at our office by appointment.
